The most densely inhabited part of the lagoon:
Murano and Burano, the two island villages renown for traditional productions: artistic glass blowing and handwoven merletto.
Then Torcello, seat of the first lagoon settlement, with its two middle age churches. Finally the islands of Vignole and Sant'Erasmo, home of the venetian farms, also producing interesting local wines. offer nice tasting experiences and pleasant country walks.
Southern Lagoon & Chioggia
The Casoni da pesca (fishing stilthouses) and the second biggest city in the Lagoon: Chioggia is also the hub of both lagoon and northern Adriatic sea for fishery. Some of the best fish restaurants can be found here, or, if you prefer, you can shop your own fish at the local gorgeous market. The Casoni da pesca, toghether with Pellestrina island, are a distinctive and almost unique trait of this landscape: they serve as hubs for the traditional fish farming, since the XVI century.
